Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, Sweden’s Treehotel is made up of 350 birdhouses and will debut its Bjarke Ingels Group–designed guest room in May. The architectural marvel has been dubbed Biosphere, a 111-square-foot sphere, which is fully immersed in the towering pines of the surrounding forest.

The goal of the concept is to provide guests with an immersive experience in nature for a few nights, while also providing a permanent home for birds. This vision was brought to life by hotel co-owners Kent Jonsson and Britta Jonsson-Lindvall who enlisted local ornithologist Ulf Öhman to work alongside Ingels to bring this idea to reality and inspire guests to take action for their own local bird populations.

Biosphere’s interior is simple and pragmatic with 360-degree views of the forest as well as a host of experiences in its relatively small space. Accessed solely via a suspended bridge that slopes from the ground to the top of the trees and includes a shower, sauna, incinerating toilet, and their sustainable Rukkamoinika water system with 3 liters of water for washing your hands.

The room even has an accessible roof where guests can fully experience their surroundings. Along with the structure being a marvel itself, it joins the impressive other accommodations at the Treehotel including one option being the Mirrorcube accessible by a 72-foot-long bridge, wholly camouflaged by the exterior reflective glass.
